Wash His Feet, Day 5: Read Bible Verses on Marriage

Wash His Feet Day 5

Note: Today’s post is part of the Write 31 Days challenge. You can find the introduction and links to the posts in this series right here.

We’re all probably familiar with most of the Biblical passages on marriage. But when was the last time you sat down to deliberately read through them? Chances are good that it’s been a while - it certainly has for me.

As we seek to serve our husbands with this Wash His Feet challenge, let’s stop and spend time reviewing what God’s Word has to say about marriage and husband/wife roles. And just as important, let’s also consider the areas where we’re doing well and the areas where we could improve.

To get us started, here is a list of verses we could consider (know that there are many other good passages not listed here):

  • Genesis 1:27-28

  • Genesis 2:22-24

  • Proverbs 18:22

  • Proverbs 31:10

  • Mark 10:6-9

  • Ephesians 5:22-33

  • Colossians 3:18-19

  • Hebrews 13:4

As we study what the Bible has to say about marriage, we can’t forget to include passages on how Christians are to respond and behave toward other Christians, too. Assuming that your spouse is also a believer, Scripture that speaks on how to treat other believers also applies to the husband/wife relationship.

  • Luke 6:31

  • John 15:12

  • 1 Corinthians 13:4-7a

  • Ephesians 4:29-32

  • Philippians 2:4

  • Colossians 3:12-14

  • 1 Peter 3:8-12

  • 1 John 4:20-21

What did you notice about these verses? What other verses did you come across that pair well with our topic today? In what areas do you do well, and where do you need to improve?

As I read through these passages of Scripture, I was struck by how often we’re commanded to love one another. Whether it’s the command for husbands to love their wives or for Christians to love those of the Body of Christ, this is a recurrent theme throughout the Bible. For God to have reiterated it as often as He does, it must be important to Him. This is certainly an area I can grow in!
