Wash His Feet, Day 7: Welcome Him Home

Wash His Feet Day 7

After yesterday’s tough challenge to focus on ourselves, today’s will come as a fun and welcome relief! And it’s very simple.

Eagerly and joyfully welcome him home!

What do your kids do when your husband pulls into the driveway after a long day at the office? If they’re anything like mine, they probably stand outside waiting for him, jump up and down when he arrives, and shower him with hugs, kisses, and squeals. They make quite the welcoming committee!

More pointed question: what do you do when your husband arrives after being gone all day? I’m usually putting the finishing touches on dinner or trying put away a few more items in a failed attempt to make the house look nicer. I’m not usually in the midst of the happy clamor that my little welcoming party makes.

If you’re like me, you need today’s assignment! When your husband gets home, stop being a Martha. Ignore dinner for a moment; drop the apron; and quit the tidying. Go give your spouse a great big hug and a super sloppy kiss! (Bonus points if you make the kids scream “ewww!”)

My husband Jon can confirm that many a husband would appreciate his wife welcoming him home much more than a slightly neater house. More than that, when we set aside our housework and replace it with a genuine gladness to see our sweethearts, it confirms to our men in an unspoken way that we truly are prioritizing them. It helps us acknowledge the hard work they do in providing for our families. It conveys gratitude and love.

There are few people groups more hated at the moment than Godly, honest, hardworking men. Society certainly isn’t going to bless them for their diligence. We need to go the extra mile to affirm that they are doing well and that they are appreciated.

And welcoming them home with joy is an excellent place to start!
