31 Attributes of God, Day 8: He Is Holy

How often do you think of God's holiness?  And how often do you live as though you serve a Holy God?  Although I try to remember God's holiness, I must admit that I don't always live my life as though God is holy.  I'm not diligent to root out my sin; somehow, some sins seem to be excusable and I don't ruthlessly fight to live a holy life the way I should.

But God's holiness should compel us to strive, with His help, to live a blameless life.  Because we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, we need to strive to live a life that is holy and blameless before Him.  And thankfully, He has set the Perfect Example of a holy life!

I love what Isaiah 57:15 has to say about God's holiness: 

"For thus says the High and Lofty One
Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
'I dwell in the high and holy place,
With him who has a contrite and humble spirit,
To revive the spirit of the humble,
And to revive the heart of the contrite ones'" (NKJV).

Sometimes, though, I'm not even quite sure what it means to be holy.  The online dictionary puts it this way:  "dedicated or consecrated to God or a religious purpose; sacred."  We need to be consecrated, set apart, dedicated to our holy God.  He is holy, perfect, blameless.  While we won't be perfected until we reach Heaven, we can rest in the knowledge that He is at work in us, growing us into the people He wants us to be!

Today's Assignment:  Write out the words to the hymn "Holy, Holy, Holy."  Think about these words that are based on Scripture.  My favorite line is "Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee, Perfect in power, in love, and purity."  What words jump out at you from this hymn?
