"The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing" (NKJV, emphasis added).
I absolutely love this verse, found in Zephaniah 3:17. I've heard adults say something along the lines of God not being able to save them because they're just too sinful. But the Bible reminds us here and elsewhere that God is mighty to save; nothing is too difficult for Him, and no person is so sinful that He is unable to rescue.
When was the last time you really wrestled with God's might? When did you last sit down and contemplate His power, strength, and size? Whenever I think about His magnitude, I'm blown away by the thought that this Mighty God chooses to indwell believers when the entire universe isn't big enough to contain Him.
Interestingly, the online dictionary suggested fearsome as a synonym for mighty. We are to fear/revere this Mighty God, and yet it's so easy for us to think of Him as less than He truly is, to bring Him down to our level and size.
Today's Assignment: Take some time to meditate on God's mightiness. How does God show His might in the Bible? How has He shown His might in your own life? Do you give Him the reverence due Him on account of His mightiness? I readily admit that I don't. Praise Him today for His mightiness and strength. Thank Him that He is powerful enough to save!
