Do you know what omniscient means?  Although I'd learned the definition as a child, I had to remind myself again (by Googling it) that God's omniscience means that He is all-knowing.  Since He is also all-powerful, it makes sense that He is all-knowing as well.

Why does it matter whether or not God is all-knowing?  The Bible promises us in Romans 8:28 that God works all things together for the good of those who believe in Him.  In order for Him to keep this promise, He must be very aware of everything at all times.  So, it matters a lot!  Without His omniscience, He would not be God.

Knowing that we serve an all-knowing God brings me great comfort.  So often in my own life, I can't see what is coming.  And that makes me uncomfortable (probably because, if I'm honest with myself, I'm way too much of a control freak).  But when I remember that God is omniscient, it gives me a peace unlike anything else.

As Corrie Ten Boom so eloquently put it, we should "never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God."  Isn't that beautiful?

We don't need to know everything; in fact, if we did, it would be a detriment to us!  But the reason we don't need to know is because God does know.  He is omniscient.  He is capable.  He is all-knowing.

Today's Assignment:  We've now covered more than half of the 31 attributes we plan to study in this series.  Let's go back through our current list to thank and praise the Lord for all of His attributes.  Just as we like being appreciated for our strengths and gifts, so we can appreciate God's wonderful attributes that He uses for our good!
